Some people are just not clear on the concept of Easter Eggs. I'm not talking about the hard-boiled-colored objects you hide in the backyard in April for your kids to find. No, I'm talking about those little hidden treasures left behind by video game developers and movie makers.

An Easter Egg is something hidden in a DVD menu or within a video game that can only be seen/unlocked when the viewer/player either enters a specific code or performs specific steps in a specific order.

In case you're not familiar with it, Easter Egg Archive is a website that publishes, well... Easter Eggs. And, not just video game and DVD Easter Eggs. They also list Easter Eggs from various Microsoft operating systems and applications as well as other software applications. So, the other day, I'm cruising through this list - "Eggs with Pictures" - and that's when I realized that some people just don't get it.

There's a chase scene in the first part of the movie, 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.' They crash through some crates and as Indiana is driving out of the warehouse, the camera reveals that one of the smashed crates contains the Lost Ark. Someone listed that as an "Easter Egg."

If you watch all the way to the end of the credits of 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest,' you'll see that the natives made the Jail Key Dog their king. Someone listed that as a "secret clip." Movie makers - especially Disney - have been doing that for years. It's probably some trick thought up by one of the industry unions to get audiences to watch all of the credits.

Oh, and a director/producer/writer/actor cameo in a movie - and/or video game for that matter - is NOT an Easter Egg!

Firefly/Serenity actors Nathan "Mal Reynolds" Fillion, Alan "Wash" Tudyk and Adam "Jayne Cobb" Baldwin performed voice acting for the XBOX360 video game Halo 3 (and the upcoming Halo 3: ODST). And, in most cases, they were acting as their Firefly/Serenity characters: At some point, you can hear Adam's Halo 3 character yell, "Say 'Hello' to Vera!"; You can also hear Alan's character say, "Oh, Master Chief... Shiny!" That information is not an Easter Egg - if anything, it's trivia.

Someone also listed the crashed UFO in Fallout 3 as an Easter Egg. Fallout 3 is an open-ended RPG (role play game). There's all sorts of stuff to find in this game. The UFO crash site was actually a place marker for a future DLC (downloadable content) add-on where your character is "beamed-up" to an alien spacecraft.
