I am so bummed right now. Yesterday, I bought a Smith and Wesson M&P .45. This morning, I field stripped, cleaned, lubricated and re-assembled it. Then, I field stripped and re-assembled a few more times. On the last re-assembly, as I was pulling the slide to the rear, it made it about a 1/4 inch from the rear and there was a snap - not like something breaking, more like something either snapping into place or snapping out of place - and the slide would not move any further. And, it would only move about a 1/4 inch forward or back. When trying to move the slide forward or back, it wouldn't get progressively harder, it would just stop, like it was hitting an obstruction.

I called Smith and Wesson customer service and the guy I talked to said it sounded like the return spring had come away from the barrel. Since the gun is still under warranty, he said they would send me a return label and they will repair it or replace it (if needed).

This is NOT the picture I wanted to post of my new gun. This picture shows the stuck near the rear.

nice gun :) sorry it started off so poorly, but glad SW's customer service is trying to make it right.

Yeah, the guy at S&W said, "It would be better for us to try to fix it, because if we break it, we replace it but if you break it it's on you."
