More Banking Douchebaggery
At first, I couldn't believe that CNN was giving credit to something that a tabloid site was reporting, but at least they tried to confirm it. (Although, CNN and TMZ.com are both owned by Time Warner...)
According to spokesperson for the bank, they did sponsor a golf tournament and other events, but not at taxpayer expense.
Apparently, they are a "healthy" bank, and did not seek the $1.6 billion it received from the government as part of the U.S. Treasury's Capital Purchase Program, but that it "agreed to the government's goal of gaining the participation of all major banks in the United States."
But, this "healthy" bank also announced it was laying off 450 employees in December of last year. Maybe if they would have better appropriated that $1.6 billion it DIDN'T NEED, they wouldn't need to layoff all those people.
