I bought a Pioneer navigation/audio unit for the Accent. I bought it online and got a really great price. When I bought the car, the salesman told me that, if I wanted to install an after-market radio or whatnot, to bring it them so that it gets done right. So, that's what I did. At least, that's what I tried to do.
Before I bought the Pioneer, I called the service department at the dealership to make sure they could do it and to get a quote. They said they would have to see the unit in order to give me a quote. So, once the unit came in, I took it to the dealership, but the service agent I talked to this time said they didn't install after-market radios and said I should take it to Car Toys or BestBuy or somesuch. I found the salesman who sold me the car and he told me to contact the 'Accessories Manager' to make arrangements for them to install it.
Come to find out, the last service agent I spoke with was correct - the service department at the dealership doesn't actually do the work, they send the car out and have someone else do it. But, according to the 'Accessories Manager' their vendor won't install it either because I didn't buy it from them. She said it had something to do with the warranty. If something is wrong with the equipment, it wouldn't be covered under their installation warranty. Which is fine by me, since the equipment is brand new and covered by the manufacturer's warranty. Which, by the by, would still be the case even if I DID buy it from them.
In that case, since the dealership and their vendor don't want me money, I guess I will take it to Car Toys after-all.
